How to Prepare for a Job Interview

A job interview can be a nerve-wracking experience, especially if it is your first interview and/or you are already feeling stressed out about getting the job in question. Following are some things you can do to calm yourself down, get ready for your interview and increase the likelihood of getting hired.

Practice

Think about questions you will likely be asked and practice answering them. If there are questions you feel particularly uncomfortable answering, practice answering them several times or until you feel you can do so with confidence.

Calm Yourself

Do whatever it takes to calm your mind before you head off for your interview. Getting a good night’s sleep the night before is highly recommended, as is deep breathing, eating a good meal and visualizing a positive interview outcome in your mind.

Choose Good Clothes

Make sure your clothes and shoes look good and are also comfortable to wear. Iron your clothes and shine your shoes the night beforehand so you are ready to go the next day.

If you have tattoos, choose a shirt and/or pants that would cover them. Avoid gaudy jewelry, heavy makeup, and outlandish hairstyles, even if the employer has not specified a particular dress code.

Allow Extra Travel Time

Traffic, car problems, and other issues can cause you to be late for a job interview that you thought you would arrive at on time. That is why it is important to leave the house early and allow extra travel time. Arriving five to ten minutes early for your interview shows your potential boss that you are concerned about punctuality.

Following these tips will prepare you to face potential bosses with confidence, knowing that you are putting your best foot forward in each job interview.
