How to Be a Cherished Opener or Closer at Work

Job Search Force 19 February, 2020

Opening and closing duties are the two most desirable sets of tasks an employee can have. If you can establish yourself as a cherished opener or closer, you can establish yourself as an asset to the company. You'll be the person that your employer relies on for the task, and they will not want to lose you as a worker. These are some tips that you can use to become a valued opener or closer.

Keep a Clean Attendance Record

Perfect attendance is the first thing that will cause your employer to consider you for opening or closing duties. They will know that they can rely on you to show up to open the store or get everything shut down smoothly at the end of the night. You can gain their trust by only calling out during emergencies. By all means, it's okay to plan some well-deserved vacation time. However, you should keep random call-outs to a minimum.

Ask for an Opportunity

Sometimes, you have to ask for the opportunity to show an employer that you're fit for a position. Go to your bosses and request that they leave you with the responsibility of opening or closing. That will give you the perfect opportunity to show them that you can do it.

Do Something Special

You should come in on time when you get the chance to be the opener or closer. That's a given. However, you should also do something extra that gets the attention of the higher-ups. Take it upon yourself to do something additional to your regular work. For example, you can rearrange the stock or clean the store so that it looks amazing for the customers.

If you can follow those three tips, you'll be well on your way to becoming a cherished opener or closer. You may end up having a long history with your employer, as well.
